Two ways to start. One connected walkthrough.

Choose a standard K–5 visit or use a temporary K–3 assessment reference to help select an instructional focus.

Standard Walkthrough · K–5

Select the teacher, grade, and lesson context. Choose relevant look-fors, record factual classroom evidence, and rate what you can observe using indicator-specific anchors. Use Not Observed when the visit does not provide enough evidence.

Start from Assessment Data · K–3

Review a suggested instructional focus based on a school-approved benchmark export. Confirm it, change it, enter a focus manually, or continue with a Standard Walkthrough. Your confirmed focus opens the same observation workflow.

Walkthrough Guide

Open the guide from the walkthrough start panel without leaving an in-progress observation. Review preparation, nine domains, grade and lesson context, rating guidance, and coaching follow-up. Print or save the guide as a PDF.

School and roster setup

A six-step setup covers privacy, observer details, school, academic context, teacher roster, and review. Import and preview a roster CSV, add teachers manually, or defer the roster. Manage existing teachers in the Teachers view.

Evidence and coaching

Record lesson context and specific evidence, review and edit generated coaching notes, and document an agreed next step and follow-up plan. Keep the conversation grounded in what was observed.

Walkthrough Summary

Create an editable Word-compatible summary and a printable conference copy with observation evidence, coaching notes, and follow-up. Review the content before sharing through your school’s approved process.

9 domains. 56 indicators. 13 practice flags.

Grade-filtered indicators help leaders look closely at both the content of reading instruction and how students experience it.

Explicit Instruction
Phonemic Awareness
Phonics & Decoding
Encoding & Spelling
Fluency
Vocabulary, Morphology & Syntax
Comprehension
Student Practice
Intervention
See the content connections. Five reporting categories organize content from letter-sound correspondences through word reading and spelling, sentence reading and dictation, text fluency, and text comprehension. Explicit Instruction, Student Practice, and Intervention remain separate lenses on how instruction happens.

A brief walkthrough is a sample of instruction. Select indicators that fit the lesson, and interpret ratings alongside context and other evidence. Walkthrough scores do not measure student achievement or establish a teacher’s overall effectiveness.

Use a reading signal to focus the visit.

Connect an existing screener export to relevant classroom look-fors while keeping the instructional decision with the observer.

1. Import and check

Use a CSV or CSV-formatted UTF-8 text file, up to 5 MB and 20,000 rows. Match columns when needed and review the grade, benchmark window, and available classroom scope. PDFs and spreadsheet workbooks are not supported.

2. Review the suggestion

Review the suggested focus and the limits of the evidence. If the group is too small or the signal is unclear, widen the scope, select a focus manually, or use a Standard Walkthrough.

3. Confirm and observe

Confirm or change the focus before starting. Use the highlighted look-fors as a starting point, then capture your own observation evidence and coaching next step.

Imported assessment data is for temporary reference only.

The imported data does not live in the application. The file, student rows, raw scores, and temporary assessment results are not retained. LiteracyLens saves the confirmed instructional focus and observation evidence. Keep student identifiers and assessment scores out of observation notes.

Assessment results help frame a question for the visit; they do not diagnose a student, assign an intervention tier, or prove that a teacher’s instruction caused a result. Read the assessment-guided workflow →

Turn recorded evidence into next steps.

Review classroom patterns, plan professional learning, and export the information your team needs.

Dashboard and Trends

Review recorded domain and grade patterns in the dashboard, including the five content categories. Use Trends to discuss changes in observation scores over time and identify questions for follow-up.

Teachers and Gap Analysis

Maintain your teacher roster and review walkthrough counts and recorded patterns. Gap Analysis ranks lower-scoring domain–grade combinations to support discussion of where more observation or coaching may help.

School PD Plan

Review ranked needs, suggested programs, teacher-to-program mappings, and learning cohorts. Export the plan as CSV or PDF, or include it in a consolidated CSV. Program suggestions are starting points for professional review.

Individual and consolidated exports

Export observations, gap analysis, trends, teacher profiles, and the School PD Plan. Select multiple report sections for one consolidated CSV. Check column mappings and your receiving system’s requirements before importing. View the export specification →

The School PD Plan focuses on professional learning needs and groupings; it does not calculate program prices, budgets, or investment totals.

Prepare, observe, coach, follow up.

LiteracyLens supports informal instructional walkthroughs and coaching conversations alongside your school’s existing observation process.

The browser demo uses fictional information and is separate from the native iPhone/iPad app. Native release availability should be confirmed with Sorvia. In the web demo, PDF exports use Print / Save as PDF; editable summaries download as Word-compatible .doc files.
